Rescue 14 E.M.S. Closes after 5 Decades.

For those that don’t know, the majority of the volunteers at Adamsburg Fire Department who currently have a career in EMS or are EMS trained started at or were currently volunteering at Rescue 14 E.M.S. Many hospitals and providers can attest, you would regularly see our firefighters on a Rescue 14 ambulance helping out in any way we could. These people, the volunteers, and the great employees that took part in this organization are what made it a great service. This is what makes it such a bittersweet day. Today marks the end of service for Rescue 14 E.M.S. The ambulance service we have worked with since its inception in 1968 is ceasing operations as of this morning. For the last 5 decades Rescue 14 has provided service to the West Hempfield Area, Adamsburg Borough and Arona Borough. Starting out as an all volunteer service, eventually transitioning to the combination service it was most recently, the service provided top notch ALS care. The service, small in size, has persevered through several tough times in its years of service, however with declining revenue, shortage of providers, and changing health care related political climate, it had become increasingly hard to support an ambulance service whose only mission is to provide quality Emergency Medical Care. The Board of Directors, seeing that it could no longer provide the the service at the level it should, made the hard decision to close. In this process, the Board met with Mutual Aid EMS, who was already the provider for the majority of Hempfield Township and made the move to integrate operations and ultimately have Mutual Aid EMS take over. The move has been organized so there will never be a lapse in coverage. We at the Adamsburg and Community Volunteer Fire Department, would like to say thank you to Rescue 14 E.M.S. and all of the employees, volunteers, board members, and the residents who supported them in anyway. We wish Mutual Aid, the best of luck in this new endeavor and plan on working closely with them just as we had with Rescue 14 E.M.S.
