FIRE SAFETY STARTS YOUNG
Date: 10-09-09
Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Department firefighter and engine driver Rick Smith (above left) helps Jason Fait, the station’s fire prevention educator and program director, outfit West Hempfield Elementary School kindergartner Noah Zadroga, 5, in full survival gear Thursday. Fait conducted a Stop,Drop, and Roll program for Amy Weber’s kindergarten class then offered the youngsters a ride in the station’s fire truck in the school parking lot. “Using Power Point in the classroom and then
rewarding (the students) afterward in seeing Holstien, a Harlequin Great Dane that assists in fire prevention programs from Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Department, is the best way to reach students,” Fait says.
Fioni Wayson (left) and Mollie Gounder, both 5, enjoy a ride in the fire truck as Jason Fait talks about fire safety and engine driver Rick Smith (not pictured) sounds the vehicle’s air horn and siren and flashes its lights.
