Mutual Aid Departments Gather for Training/Familiarization

Firefighters from Adamsburg, Westmoreland City, and Strawpump gathered at Strawpump’s firehall to go over each departments equipment. At the request of Chief 3, the Quint was brought to the training to go over its equipment, functions, and limitations. This type of familiarization provides important knowledge about limitations and uses needed to make decisions while operating at a fire-ground. During the training the ladder truck was put through its paces and the equipment was located and explained. Towards the end of the evolution the ladder was sent up to the roof of Strawpump’s building for anyone to climb, after a few people finished the ascent and descent, Westmoreland City’s Service 3 became the focus. This newer vehicle carried a variety of ventilation, support tools for vehicle rescue, hazmat tools, lighting, and a “stored energy” CAFS (compressed air foam system). Chief 3 went over the compartmentation, uses, and functionality of the equipment on the truck. Also on display for familiarization were Rescue and Engine 2, Engine 3, and Rescue 10. Adamsburg VFD would like to thank Chief 3 for setting up the training and bringing the Engine and Service for us to see. We would also like to thank Chief 2 for allowing the use of their grounds and making their equipment available to see.
